Join a group of CCV members and friends for a docent-led tour of the new Downtown Austin Library on Wed., May 9th @ 11am. The 198,000-sq-ft building was designed by local architecture firm Lake|Flato with an abundance of natural light and cool spaces, including everything from reading nooks and community meeting rooms to a six-story atrium and rooftop garden. Joins us and the highly-knowledgable library docents to learn all about the building and the many amazing features (beyond 500,000+ books!) housed therein. The CCV group will gather for an optional Dutch-treat lunch nearby after the tour!

Advance registration required. We are planning to carpool from the Randall's parking lot at Exposition and Lake Austin Blvd. If you need a ride, please contact the office and we'll try to arrange one. 512-524-2709 or info@capitalcityvillage.org

About the new Downtown Central Library: The Central Library provides access to knowledge through cutting-edge technology, extensive print and digital collections and dynamic and enriching programming for the entire community. The building is designed to adapt to new technology and the needs of future generations. It incorporates flexible and blended spaces that focus on the electronic delivery of information. Cozy areas for reading and shared learning rooms that can be used for classes and workshops, as well as expansive areas for community gatherings and events, have been incorporated into the design. Customers can read the latest bestseller or get some work done on their laptops while enjoying the fresh air and breathtaking view from the reading porches overlooking Shoal Creek and Lady Bird Lake.

"Austin's never had a community space that truly welcomes families in an informal way to enjoy one another and build community. "We saw [the library] as a social hub, a front porch for the city of Austin."

~ Architect David Lake, quoted in the Oct. 27, 2017 edition of The Austin Chronicle
