Join CCV members, volunteers and friends for the second session of our Summer Writers Series, "Writing a Memoir - Preserving Life's Experiences" by Peggy Pickle.
Peggy is a native Austinite and received a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Texas. She was a writer and public relations staffer for organizations in Virginia and Austin, as well as writing free-lance articles for magazines and newspapers. Peggy is married to Capitol City Village member Donald Cook.
Peggy’s father, J.J. “Jake” Pickle, served in the U.S. House of Representatives representing Texas’ 10th Congressional District for 31 years, from 1963 to 1994. After his retirement from Congress, he and Peggy co-authored a book, “JAKE”, about his life experiences. It was published in 1997 by the University of Texas Press. Peggy’s experiences writing “JAKE” taught her a lot about compiling a family memoir. Doing so needn’t be an intimidating process; it starts with just one story.
