Join CCV Men and Women for the monthly lunch from home. Provide your own favorite pot luck and settle in for an informative program and good conversation.

We have a terrific program for you in our October 20 joint virtual lunch meeting!

Fresh from the recently-ended 87th session of the Texas Legislature, House of Representatives District 48 Representative Donna Howard has graciously agreed to share with CCV members her insights on what goes on inside our lovely state capitol building. Our Texas Legislature has certainly been much in the news of late. We have asked Rep. Howard to comment on the legislative process, what it is like to work with her colleagues on both sides of the aisle, her personal legislative objectives and successes, and how she sees the legislature affecting life in Texas in coming years.

Representative Howard has served in the Texas House of Representatives since 2006. She is a member of the powerful House Appropriations Committee (where spending bills originate) and of the State Affairs Committee.

A native of Austin, Rep. Howard earned a Bachelor’s degree in nursing and a Master’s degree in health education from the University of Texas. She worked as a critical care nurse at Brackenridge and Seton hospitals and served as Austin’s first hospital-based Patient Education Coordinator. She is a past president of the Texas Nurses Association (District 5) and was a health education instructor at UT/Austin.

Rep. Howard was elected to the Eanes ISD board in West Austin for the 1996-1999 term. She has served on the boards of Austin Area Inter-religious Ministries, Common Cause Texas, Texas Freedom Network, and the Texas Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy. She now serves as a board member of the Expanding Horizons Foundation, supporting low-income housing and education.

Her prior committee and workgroup appointments include: House Calendars Committee; Culture, Recreation, and Tourism Committee; Speaker’s Select Committee on Fiscal Impacts of Border Security; LCRA Upper Basin Work Group; Select Committee to Determine a Sufficient Balance of the Economic Stabilization Fund; Joint Interim Committee On Prescribing and Dispensing Controlled Substances; Joint Interim Committee on Higher Education Formula Funding; and the Joint Oversight Committee on Government Facilities.

Representative Howard was married to attorney Derek Howard for 40 wonderful years and they proudly raised three children together. Rep. Howard is also a grandmother to seven perfect (by her own admission!) grandchildren.

So: In Rep. Howard we have a heath-care professional who also influences state spending and tax policy, and she's working for us!  Please sit down right now and note this important event on your calendar for October 20, 2021 at 12:00 noon.
